We are Invested Faith
When we picture faith communities, we tend to imagine them contained within stained glass windows, seated on wooden pews, gathering to recite prayers in unison. But all around the country, faith is showing up in unexpected places.
Faith has taken to the streets - In art studios and college campuses, on dojos and basketball courts, in commercial kitchens and grocery stores, architecture firms and garages, adoption services and coffee shops.
People of faith– from all backgrounds, religions, and belief systems– are answering that call for collective justice.
There is a movement growing beyond the walls of traditional church…a movement that needs us all.
We are Invested Faith Fellows– working to heal the world with courage, creativity, and conviction.
We are building systems that heal.
We are filling the gaps so communities can thrive.
We are living out God’s love for the whole world.
We are the vision of the future, already being born.
Faith is everywhere.
Justice is in our hands.
And together, we are planting the seeds for what comes next.
Who We Are
Invested Faith is a 501(c)3 organization founded to help individuals and religious institutions use their assets to fund the work of faith-rooted social entrepreneurs building businesses that are changing unjust systems. While religious institutions decline and people of faith actively seek meaningful ways to redirect their assets to heal the world, Invested Faith identifies, resources and connects faith-rooted social entrepreneurs working to build businesses that become new models of faith, community and justice-making across the country.
Meet Invested Faith Fellows
Invested Faith Fellow Chelsea Spyres created a new way for churches to live out their mission of feeding the community while offering new businesses a chance to thrive. The Wilmington Kitchen Collective in Wilmington, DE utilizes church kitchens, which sit empty and unused most of the week, to offer culinary entrepreneurs an affordable option for high-quality commercial kitchen facilities. The kitchens are used by caterers, food truck owners, bakers and other start-ups, helping entrepreneurs overcome a major obstacle in starting their business.
Invested Faith Fellow Tiffany Terrell created the Mobile Grocery Store concept for A Better Way Grocers in 2017 after recognizing the deep need of local residents in surrounding food deserts. The mission of A Better Way Grocers is to drive nutritious food into communities struggling with food access issues across southwest Georgia. Using a retro-fitted school bus as a one-aisle grocery store, Terrell and her team offer reasonably priced, healthy and nutritious food to local communities, along with health education to address chronic food-related illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
