Annalise Hume
Annalise Hume’s journey began in moments of spiritual disconnect in a church tradition that often treated the body as secondary to belief. In response to this questioning, Annalise founded Embodied Faith: a practice where movement isn’t performance, but prayer, exploration, and healing. Weaving together resources from Dance Movement Therapy, neuroscience, theology, and transformative learning theories, spiritual director Annalise Hume invites people to dance with the Divine. Embodied Faith offers Spiritual Direction and facilitates movement workshops to help others recognize the movement of God in their life.
Whether moving physically or engaging in the process through imagination, participants are invited to pray, breathe, and play—not knowing choreography, but trusting the body as spiritual ground These sessions are invitations—not instructions. Annalise invites participants to embody biblical themes—like the “I Am” statements of Jesus—through movement, journaling, conversation, and contemplative reflection. No dance experience is needed—just a willingness to listen to your body as a vessel of divine connection. The result is often surprising: scripture awakens in new ways when felt in the bones, not just read on the page.
The use of movement helps those with both learning and physical disabilities and those who have disconnected from their bodies to rediscover those connections and link them to faith. The hope is that the incarnation of Jesus would impact real bodies,
For women longing for a fresh, whole-self approach to faith—particularly those weary of disembodied worship—Annalise creates a safe, playful threshold. Here, movement becomes a mutual language: an open invitation for the body to speak, for heart and spirit to respond, and for faith to emerge as something kinesthetic as well as intellectual.
